As magical as winter can be, it also comes with unwanted illness. Hectic schedules and cold weather make it harder for us to take care of ourselves. Here are some simple tips that you can take to keep you and your host family happy and healthy this season.
Bundle up
Hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, and coats – rock them all. It’s much better to be safe than sorry, so bundle up and be prepared for the cold weather. These layers will keep you dry and protect you from losing heat. Keep your bodies healthy this winter by dressing in your coziest and warmest outfits. Trust us, layers are totally in style this season.
Wash your hands
Between school, sports, and everyday life, our hands get covered in germs and bacteria. To avoid getting yourself and the whole family sick, wash your hands multiple times a day. This includes before and after meals, bathroom trips, and whenever you’re thinking about it, go ahead and wash them again! Scrub for at least 30 seconds to protect yourself. We promise it’s worth the hassle.
R, R, R
Relax, rest, and repeat. Like exercise, minimizing stress levels and making sure you get adequate amounts of sleep are crucial in keeping the family healthy this winter. It can be a hectic time of year, but it’s important to take time for yourself and do what’s right for your body. Whether you’re listening to music by the fire, grabbing coffee with friends, or cuddling up with a good book, your body and mind will thank you for your self-care.
Stay hydrated & eat well
Water is crucial for oxygen flow, maintaining a smooth digestive system, and blocking infection. If you struggle with drinking enough water, set some reminders on your phone to make sure you’re getting a proper daily intake. It’s hard to avoid warm comfort foods or quick and easy meals during the winter months, but just remember everything in moderation. Food has an incredible impact on the body, so make sure you and your family are eating right this winter to keep you happy and healthy.
Work out & Go outside
Cold weather makes it harder to stay motivated to exercise, but we encourage you to keep at it! Not only does exercise help you maintain your physical health and fight off bacteria, but it also helps your emotional health. Winter time can be hard on the body in mind with stress of holidays, the consumption of delicious foods, and not-so-desirable weather. So, take care of yourself, because you deserve it!
