Agents
To be able to Au Pair in the Netherlands you need to go through a screening procedure.
Our HBN platform easily guides you through this procedure and do in-house screening. However we have our reliable local agents, who can assist & guide you locally during the first steps in your country of origin.
Sponsorship IND
To be able to Au Pair in the Netherlands you need to go through an official agency like HBN.
Even if you are living in a Schengen Area and do not need a Residence Card for a long-term stay, you still need an agency to join the Au Pair Program longer than 3 months. We are an official sponsor who will be responsible for you the entire year that you reside in the Netherlands. Just start the process on our platform.

Our host families will be equally prepared and will receive the tools to make the start of your Au Pair year as smooth as possible.

We do not make a difference in our level of care & service. We will check in with you regularly next to our automatic evaluations to see how things are going.
We will also contact your Host Family regularly to see if all goes well.
If there is miscommunication because of cultural differences or if you experience issues because of different expectations, we will plan a mediation session and in most cases it is fixed. With our many years of experience, we know there are always solutions to fix the problem.
How we work
1. Register & Getting to know you
Your journey begins with registering on our online platform. The platform is designed that with each click you are guided through every step. Next to this our team will be there to assist you. This will be the start of your journey which will be filled with excitement, cultural exploration and life long memories. You can also make use of our professional local agents to guide you in your own country. If you do not yet have a local agent, don’t worry, we will assign you an agent in your country of origin or HBN NL will guide you directly.
2. Profile , Documents & Legal procedures
You will create a profile to show case your unique self! This is where families will get a glimpse of who you are and where you make families interested, to get to know you better. While you are busy completing your profile you will be required to gather some documents. Certain documents can take longer to request and received, so it is good to start requesting these while filling your profile. The Dutch Au Pair Law requires you to gather quite some documentation but don’t worry we will guide you easily through this legal procedure.
3. Matching
After your profile is completed, you will have an in-depth interview with your local agent. This interview with our local agent abroad is to get to know you, check if you are fit for the program and to inform you better on what to expect of the program. We have years of experience so this will really help you in this new adventure. You will also have a short chat with the head office in NL. As we will be your guide and support during the whole program in the Netherlands, it is nice to meet you already. Next to this we are able to help you match with the right kind of family. Then comes the magic; The match making process. On our platform you can meet as many families as you want. This is where this journey starts getting real as you are another step closer to arriving in The Netherlands. The click with a family is super important so make sure you take the time for this matchmaking process.
Have you already found your matching host family? Then we can assist you and your future family with our Self-Match Service. We take both you and your future host family through the legal process in an efficient yet qualitative way. Furthermore, we will assist you throughout your whole Au Pair year, just like we do with the Au Pairs who are matched through our Full Service Program.
4. Screening our families
We screen you thoroughly to see if you are fit for the program but we also make sure we screen and inform our Host Families well. During the Host Family meeting we get to know them, we do a tour of the Host family’s house and also your Au Pair room to ensure you arrive in a safe and welcoming environment. We also listen to the Host Families expectations and make sure it is in line with the Au Pair program.
5. Arrival & Support
Whether you come to the Netherlands through a Self-Match or Full Service, we do not make a difference in the level of guidance and support that we give you. With our years of professional and personal experiences we will give you and your Host Family the much needed advice and tools to make the start of your Au Pair year as smooth as possible.
Every Au Pair will be able to join our HBN Welcome Training at the beginning of the Au Pair year. We believe that with the right preparation and attitude you will have the time of your life in the Netherlands and we are committed to making sure that you do.
We will check in with you regularly by email and phone to see how things are going, to advice you if necessary and to give you tools to deal with certain cultural differences. Next to this we have legal responsibility to check if you and your host family adhere to the legal conditions. During the whole exchange period, the Au Pair and family can always contact us for advice or help.
6. Events & Fun
HBN finds it important to contribute to a fun and exciting year for you. We organize 3 fun events for all our Au Pairs. Your host family will cover these costs so you are always able to join these events, lucky you 😉 This is a great way to stay in touch with other Au Pairs and with us. Together with our HBN ambassadors we also arrange lots of other smaller events and trips to explore the Netherlands to make sure this year will be an unforgettable one.
